(Herrin, Ill.) – WoodmenLife Chapter 50 of Carbondale presented $1,000 in photo contest winnings to Gum Drops NFP. The chapter made the donation after taking third place in the national Hunger Fighting Hero photo contest.

The photo contest was featured on the corporate WoodmenLife Facebook page, challenging people to take a photo showcasing how they fought hunger in their community. The top three Hunger Fighting Heroes were awarded cash prizes to benefit the charity of their choice. Chapter representative Jim Shull’s photo “Knock Hunger” featured volunteers at a Gum Drops food packing event.

“We are so proud to be supporting Gum Drops again with this donation,” said Shull. “It’s really a worthy organization that does so much for Illinois kids.”

Gum Drops, based in Carterville, provides weekend meals to low-income children at 47 schools. The program is volunteer-run and relies on donations from individuals and organizations in order to operate.
